Emerging Trends in Dietetics, Spring Seminar 2013
This year's keynote speaker will be Jeff M. Witte, Secretary of Agriculture, State of New Mexico. Mr. Witte is an expert in the emerging field of agroterrorism. He will discuss threats to the agriculture and food industries, and Jeff will work in concert with Teresa Wagner, MS, RD/LD to present the role registered dietitians play in preparedness and response in the event of an incident.

8:30 - 8:40 Welcome/Opening Statement
8:40 - 9:55 Jeff Witte and Teresa Wagner, MS, RD, LD - Jeff Witte is the Secretary of Agriculture for the State of New Mexico, and a nationally recognized expert in the field of Agro-terrorism. Mr. Witte will be discussing emerging threats to the agriculture and food industries. Teresa will discuss the role RDs play in preparedness and response in the event of a food supply incident as facilitators of public health.

10:15 -11:30 Dr. Carolyn Matthews - Dr. Matthews is a physician who specializes in gynecologic oncology. She has completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine with Dr. Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona, and has attended more than 1,000 hours of training in integrative and functional medicine. Dr. Matthews will be discussing integrative and functional medicine.

1:00 - 2:00 Karen Lacy, MS, RD, CD - The Nutrition Care Process and Improving Skills for Assessment, Diagnosing, Intervention and Monitoring, and Evaluation.
2:00 - 2:15 Break/Exhibits
2:15 - 3:15 Robin Plotkin, RD, LD - "Get the Picture?" using Social Media and Food Photography to communicate health messages, promote the RD and perpetuate a culinary agenda.
3:15 - 3:30 Closing Remarks
